Agreement and eligibility

By using Annotated, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. You must be at least 13 and able to form a binding agreement in your location. Organizations are responsible for authorized users acting for them.

Your commentary and source material

You keep ownership of original commentary you create. You give Annotated a limited license to host, reproduce, transmit, and display submitted commentary and media only as needed to operate the source-linked annotation service you requested.

Use the shortest source excerpt that fairly supports your point. Public article excerpts are limited to 100 words even when a longer immutable selector is retained for integrity checks. You represent that you have the permissions or another valid basis needed for anything you ask Annotated to re-host. A checkbox is your attestation, not proof of ownership and not legal advice.

Evidence threads and portable cards

A receipt-backed support, challenge, context, or correction must use a separate public annotation owned by the person attaching it. Evidence threads and their source relationships are public contributions and may remain visible as part of the conversation unless removed under these terms. Proof-card images and embeds reproduce only the already-public annotation, attribution, and source boundary; embedding does not remove these terms or grant additional source rights.

Source-tab recording

Source-tab recording is a separate user action and is required before a video or podcast annotation can be published. It records the visible contents and audible output of the invoked active tab for the selected interval, which may include more than the page's target media element. It does not record browser chrome or other tabs. You must review what is visible/audible, respect privacy and third-party rights, use Stop/discard when needed, and publish only material you are authorized to share. The 90-second, 426×240/30 fps, and 16 MiB source-tab limits are safety/product limits, not a statement that any use is legally permitted.

Agent clients and direct-media capture

An Agent API key authorizes any client holding it to act within the scopes you select. A clips:write key holder can make a delegated per-intent rights attestation and start authorized_remote processing for a directly fetchable media URL without a later browser checkbox. An annotations:write plus receipts:publish client can request publication after the separate API acknowledgment and account/profile checks. You are responsible for choosing trustworthy clients, protecting and revoking keys, registering only sources you are authorized to process, and reviewing a client's actions. Annotated records the caller's assertion and provenance but does not independently verify legal rights.

Prohibited conduct

• Removing or falsifying attribution, selectors, source URLs, identity, or rights attestations.
• Recording/uploading unlawful, private, confidential, or third-party content you are not permitted to share.
• Harassment, impersonation, doxxing, spam, or coordinated manipulation.
• Bypassing capture limits, security controls, signed URLs, rate limits, or access decisions.
• Using automated collection or repeated clips to reconstruct copyrighted works or private datasets.

Claims, reports, and review

A visible File a claim action records a private intake and returns a reference ID. The annotation creator may review the requested outcome in a private resolution inbox and publish a bounded action or response on the annotation. A claimant's optional statement stays private unless the claimant makes the exact wording eligible and the annotation creator separately publishes it; the creator can later withdraw it. The private submission and publication audit remains retained. Public copy says Annotated has not verified the claimant's identity or relationship. Contact details and private explanations are not public. The workflow is not an automatic legal decision, guaranteed outbound email, or promise of a particular outcome or timeline. We may contact the supplied email and may remove, restrict, or restore content after appropriate review.

Private reports are a separate signed-in safety intake. Do not submit passwords, identity documents, or unnecessary sensitive information through claim, report, or support forms.

Accounts, data controls, and service availability

Google/X sign-in happens on the companion website. You are responsible for account security, Agent API clients and keys issued by your account, and accurate public profile information. You may revoke API keys, export account/product rows as JSON, delete comments or annotations, and request account deletion through the shipped controls. Some removal markers, de-identified private safety reports, and minimized claim-related records may remain as described in the Privacy Policy; private media deletion can be queued/retried.

We may change features, limits, or availability and will provide reasonable notice for material changes when practical. The service is provided as available; we do not promise uninterrupted operation, preservation of third-party source pages, or perpetual access to a source embed.

Demo mode

The showcase uses deterministic fixtures. Demo follows, applause, comments, claim/support submissions, and deletion actions are browser-local simulations, not shared-network activity. The extension's Examples are static local reference content rather than live accounts.

Annotated is a publishing tool, not legal advice or source verification. To the extent allowed by law, the service is provided without implied warranties, and liability is limited to amounts paid for the service during the prior twelve months.
